OnePlus has managed to go beyond Samsung in the durability department.
There have been reports of OnePlus launching its first foldable phone in August for a while. But now we are in September and there is no foldable around the corner. Now, a report claims that it has been put through a durability test where it has managed to survive over 400,000 folds as opposed to 200,000 folds for the Samsung foldable phone. These folds didn't cause any damage to the hinge or the screen, which means OnePlus has managed to go beyond Samsung in the durability department. Its colour options have also been leaked -- it will be available in Emerald Eclipse and Voyage Black. What's important is that the OnePlus Open will likely have similar processing hardware to the Samsung while being significantly more affordable at a price that is less than Rs 1,20,000. It is also expected to get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset but will be coupled with a whopping 16GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This would mean that OnePlus will also provide more RAM than Samsung's foldable while starting with the same amount of memory, though Samsung has the overclocked version of the Qualcomm chip. Software-wise, the OnePlus Open should be based on Android 13 or Android 14. Considering, that OnePlus has plans for Android 14 to be deployed on the OnePlus 11 by the end of the month, the Open should launch with Android 14. Its cameras are also expected to be better with a Hasselblad-powered camera array involving a 50-megapixel wide camera with optical image stabilisation, which may be the same sensor as the OnePlus 11 smartphone. There could also be a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera sensor and a 32-megapixel periscope lens for telephoto photography. The design of the OnePlus Open will be interesting as it will be a departure from the design language established by Samsung. It will adopt a passport-style form factor which means a 16:9 7.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 2k resolution and a pretty standard 6.3-inch AMOLED screen on the external screen, with both panels having 120Hz refresh rates as well.
