Pioneer unveiled four models of AI-powered dashcams, which it claims are designed specifically for Indian road conditions.
Pioneer, the renowned Japanese audio equipment company, has entered the automotive safety and mobility solutions market with the launch of its new Smart Dashcam lineup in India. The company unveiled four models of AI-powered dashcams, which it claims are designed specifically for Indian road conditions.
The new VREC Dash Camera series, comprising the VREC-H120SC, VREC-H320SC, VREC-H520DC, and VREC-Z820DC models, aims to provide automotive safety, security, and convenience for Indian drivers. These dash cameras have been developed at Pioneer's India-based research and development centres, ensuring they are tailored to meet the unique challenges of Indian roads.
The flagship model, VREC-Z820DC, priced at ₹23,499, has 4K video recording, AI-based night vision, and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) features, including lane departure alerts, forward collision warnings, and stop-and-go alerts. It has a rear camera, GPS logger, and a 7.2-inch display. The dashcam uses a Sony Starvis image sensor and offers a wide 139-degree field of view.
The VREC-H520DC, available at ₹18,499, offers 2K recording capabilities with a 7.6 cm IPS display and uses a Sony Starvis-2 sensor, which provides better low-light recording. It also supports ADAS alerts like the Z820DC.
Pioneer has introduced the VREC-H320SC, priced at ₹11,399, for the mid-range segment. This model features a 7.6 cm IPS display, Full HD recording, and basic ADAS support through voice alerts.
The most affordable option in the lineup is the VREC-H120SC, priced at ₹5,399. Despite its entry-level positioning, it offers 1.5K resolution recording with a 120-degree field of view and supports essential features like parking mode and event recording.
A standout feature of the new dashcam series is its AI-powered capabilities. The devices offer enhanced night vision, ADAS alerts, and improved parking monitoring. Pioneer India has emphasized that these AI features have been specifically trained on datasets relevant to Indian road conditions.
The company also highlighted that the AI processing is done on-device using a neural processing unit (NPU), ensuring that user data remains local and secure.
To enhance user experience, Pioneer has developed a mobile app that allows drivers to connect to their dashcams via Wi-Fi. This app allows users to browse and watch recorded videos, create travelogues, and adjust camera settings.
Pioneer India has announced that the entire dashcam portfolio will be available for purchase starting September 2024.
