Polestar Announces Google Gemini AI Integration

Volvo’s premium brand Polestar has confirmed that Gemini, Google’s latest generative AI voice assistant, will replace the existing Google Assistant across its entire range, starting from Polestar 2 and including future models such as Polestar 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Delivered through an over-the-air software update planned for 2026, Gemini introduces more advanced conversational capabilities compared to the current system. Users will be able to engage in natural, ongoing dialogue, ask follow-up questions, and activate Gemini Live mode with the command “Hey Google, let’s talk”.

The first public demonstration of the technology will take place inside a Polestar 5 at the Slush technology conference in Helsinki, Finland, on 19-20 November 2025. The rollout will begin with US English language support, with additional languages and regions to follow.

Sid Odedra, Head of UI/UX at Polestar, stated that the integration represents the next stage in the company’s long-standing collaboration with Google to improve the in-car digital experience. Haris Ramic, Director of Product Management at Google, added that the two companies have worked together for several years to bring advanced connected-car technology to market.

Polestar vehicles already run on Android Automotive OS with deep Google integration, making the transition to Gemini relatively straightforward through a server-side update. No hardware changes are required.
