The e-scooter looks something directly out of Star Wars.
The world’s first electric cargo 2-wheeler from Pune-based start-up, Qargos, has been spotted for the first time on the road being tested. This unique-looking two-wheeler has been designed in collaboration with French multinational software corporation Dassault Systemes, and it will be extensively used in the B2B segment.
It will be powered by a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery that is paired with a 3.4 kW electric motor which produces 6 kW of peak power. With this setup, the Qargos cargo electric scooters can do a top speed of 80 kmph, and 150 km of range on a single charge.
Currently being tested for aerodynamic efficiency, the odd shape of the Qargos scooter is supposed to be quite functional. This design hides the 225-litre cargo compartment of the vehicle which is one of its major highlights.
To charge the electric scooter there is a standard AC power socket on board. However, plans to develop a DC charger are also in the pipeline. The former can charge the battery fully in just 5 hours and 15 minutes, while the fast charger can do the same in just 3 hours.
We don’t have any official launch date as of yet. However, Qargos says that the homologation process will be completed by March or April, so a launch in the first quarter of FY24-25 is highly possible. The scooters will be manufactured at Qargos’ Pune plant, and only 25 units will be manufactured at the start. Later on, as demand picks up Qargos will manufacture around 12,000 units by 2025.
