Renault has revealed a new concept version of the 4 E-Tech, called the Savane 4x4, which was revealed at the Roland-Garros French Open tennis tournament. Renault says the 4 Savane 4x4 is “ready for adventure” and is made for “gentlemen explorers”.
The 4 Savane 4x4 Concept has a raised ride height, with its ground clearance being 15 mm higher than the standard 4 E-Tech. It still has 18-inch alloy wheels which are now shod with special Goodyear UltraGrip Performance tyres, and the front and rear tracks have been widened by 10 mm.
But more importantly, the 4 Savane 4x4 Concept now has a second electric motor on the rear axle, which allows for four-wheel drive capabilities. However, Renault hasn’t defined the specifications of the electric motor but expect the Savane Concept to get a set of the 4 E-Tech’s higher power motors, which produce 148 bhp and 245 Nm each.
The 4 Savane 4x4 Concept is finished in a shade of Jade Green, a new colour by Renault. It is complemented by Gloss Black bumpers and wheel arches. The roof gets a printed fabric which Renault says provides a “concealment effect”, which is a sort of pixelated camouflage effect. Renault has also used 3D printed parts for bump absorption as they have better shock-absorbing properties. Interestingly, Renault has combined the 4 and 4x4 badges on the tailgate into one 4x4 badge (see image below).
Inside, the Savane Concept gets Deep Brown fabric seats and dashboard. It also gets an in-lit 4Savane logo on the dashboard. Renault hasn’t confirmed if it will put the 4 Savane 4x4 Concept into production, but it will be interesting to see an electric 4x4 hatchback with some serious off-road credentials. Sadly, it has a very slim chance of being introduced in India.
