The Alliance has manufactured more than 1.92 lakh cars every year on average
Renault Nissan Automotive Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) has announced a manufacturing milestone of 2.5 million cars from its Chennai manufacturing facility. Over the past 13 years, the Alliance plant has been responsible for manufacturing on average over 1.92 lakh cars every year, equivalent to one car produced every three minutes. A total of 20 models from the Renault and Nissan stable have been manufactured by the plant since commencing operations. These include the likes of the Kwid, Triber, Kiger and Magnite, which are currently in production. The Chennai plant also produced discontinued models like the Duster, Kicks, Scala, Koleos, Fluence, Sunny and Micra.
The manufacturing plant located at Oragadam, Chennai is spread over 600 acres and has produced cars for both local and export markets. The Renault Nissan Automotive alliance has already exported more than 1.15 million vehicles from Chennai's Kamarajar Port to more than 108 locations. These include markets in the Middle Eastern, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, South-East Asia, SAARC countries, and Africa. Frank Torres, President of Nissan India, commented on the milestone, “Our 2.5 million production milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to growth and the powerful potential of manufacturing in India. Going ahead, we will leverage our new investment in India and our global expertise to bring out a truly exceptional lineup of products that set new benchmarks for growth.” Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and MD of Renault India, said, “Harnessing our collective strengths, resources, expertise, we are poised to introduce a lineup of new and enhanced vehicles, including advanced electric models, solidifying our position as pioneers in modern technology with a focus on reducing environmental footprint."
The Renault Nissan Alliance had earlier announced an investment of $600 million in India to introduce new products and technologies as well as boost production and R&D activities. The Alliance's plans for the future include the production of six new vehicles, including two fully electric vehicles that will be manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant.
