Renault announced a new product plan for international markets, with the goal of doubling net revenue per unit sold outside Europe by 2027. The plan includes the launch of eight new models, including five C- and D-segment vehicles. The new models will be based on two new platforms: a Renault Group modular platform for Latin America, North Africa, Turkey, and India, and a Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform for the D and E-segments in partnership with Geely.
The Renault Group modular platform is ultra-flexible and multi-energy and will enable the brand to offer a wide range of vehicles, including SUVs, pick-ups, and sedans. The new modular platform will be adjustable and can be modified to for various vehicle lengths and wheelbases ranging between 4 to 5 metres and 2.6 to 3 metres, respectively. This platform can also accommodate internal combustion engines (ICE), 100 per cent petrol-ethanol blend flex fuel (E100), Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), 48V mild-hybrid systems and strong-hybrid systems. Renault also mentions that this platform will have front-wheel and all-wheel drive options as well.
The CMA platform is dedicated to larger vehicles, such as SUVs and MPVs. The first of the eight new models to be unveiled is the Kardian, a B-segment compact SUV that will enter the market in Latin America and Morocco next year. Other models in the pipeline include a pick-up truck based on the Niagara Concept.
Renault's new product plan for international markets is ambitious and aims to boost the brand's performance in key regions. The investment of €3 billion is a significant commitment and is a sign of Renault's confidence in its ability to grow its international business. The focus on C- and D-segment vehicles is also significant, as these are the segments that generate the most value. The new models will be based on two new platforms, which will allow Renault to offer a wide range of vehicles with a variety of powertrains, including electric and hybrid options.
Renault's goal of selling one vehicle out of three in electric or hybrid versions outside Europe by 2027 is also ambitious, but it is in line with the growing demand for these vehicles in many markets. The launch of the Kardian next year will be the first step in Renault's electrification strategy for international markets.
The Niagara Concept is a glimpse into the future of Renault's international product range. It is a tough and stylish pick-up truck that is powered by a new E-Tech Hybrid 4WD technology. This vehicle is likely to appeal to customers in markets where pick-up trucks are popular, such as Latin America and Australia.
