The Galaxy Ring With Use A New Samsung Health App

Samsung may have teased the Galaxy Ring at its Unpacked event in San Jose for the Galaxy S24 series, but reports suggest the wearable is coming sooner — as soon as this week at MWC in Barcelona. Samsung had hinted that the wearable would be powered by Galaxy AI, Samsung’s new generative AI capabilities coupled with a new Samsung Health app. This is part of a new health push by Samsung, and some of these updates will also be applicable to the Galaxy Watch 6.

Samsung will show how AI will be used in its health app that will analyze data collected from its wearables. Apart from this, on the sidelines of MWC, Samsung could also make a push for its smart home offerings with Samsung Health also integrating data from SmartThings devices.

This will include features that will control connected lights based on your sleep cycle and set alerts for when you need to take medication. This push also coincides with Google's plan to launch FitBit Labs, which Google says will leverage AI to provide insights based on health and fitness data collected by devices like the Pixel Watch.

The Galaxy Ring is entering a space largely dominated by the Oura Ring, but in India, there are local consumer electronics stalwarts like BoAT and Noise. This category is also starting to gain in popularity in India as per the latest IDC report on wearables.

This also comes at a time when reports suggest that Apple has explored creating a fitness ring but isn't so far actively developing a product per se.
