From ATVs to light armoured personnel carrier, the Republic Day 2024 parade had something for every enthusiasts.
The Republic Day parade has always allowed the nation to witness some of the cutting-edge technology and automobiles used by our esteemed military force. Enthusiasts were in for a treat year as well. From SUVs to ATVs, the Indian army exhibit at the Kartavya Path had something for everyone.
The Indian military parade at the 75th Republic Day was led by Major Toofan Singh Chauhan along with 5 Raputs on All-terrain vehicles. Followed by Lt Col Panmei Kabiphun on light Specialised Vehicles, along with 19 Maratha Light Infantry and Capt. Armandeep Singh Aujila of 2nd Battalion of the First Gorkha Rifles on QRFV.
Some of the highlights from the parade show included:
The Polaris All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) were the RZR XP 4’. They come powered by a 114 bhp ProStar 1000 Gen 2 Engine paired with an automatic transmission gearbox. Available with on-demand 2WD and AWD features, the RZR XP 4 has been designed to travel across the most diverse of terrains with six people on board. Fitted with 29-inch Trailmaster X/T tyres, the ATV equips Walker Evans Racing Needle Shocks and a 6-position accessory pulse bar.
The Sherp N1200 is another all-terrain vehicle developed by a Ukrainian-based firm. This sub-4m all-terrain vehicle has been developed for over 20 years and was one of the most odd-looking vehicles in the parade. Whether it is on-road, off-road, snow, or water, the Sherp N1200 can trade over anything. However, with a top speed of 40 kmph, the Sherp N1200 is powered by a Doosan D18 1.8-litre, three-cylinder engine that produces 55 bhp and the engine comes paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox sourced from Renault.
The Mahindra Armado is a light-weight four-wheel drive air transportable tactical armoured specialist vehicle. It equips a 3.2-litre 215 bhp diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Just like the ATVs above, the Mahindra Armado also gets 4X4 all-wheel drive capabilities with front and rear differential locks, Bilstein dampers, and a central inflation system. With a payload capacity of 1000 kg the Mahindra Armado are mostly used for surveillance with a full-blown computer inside.
