Royal Enfield is updating its iconic Classic 350 motorcycle with a feature update set for launch in the first half of August 2024. It's a move by the company to maintain the RE Classic 350's dominance in the face of growing competition. The Classic 350 J-platform was introduced a few years ago and over time many new rivals have entered the fray, with the most major being its own sibling, the Hunter 350.

The update will focus on aesthetics and functionality, with the biggest change being a full LED lighting package. This includes a new LED headlight, taillight, and indicators, giving the Royal Enfield Classic 350 a bit of a modern touch. There will likely be no mechanical changes made to the motorcycle. The tried-and-tested engine and chassis will remain the same, ensuring the familiar ride experience. The engine in its current state of tune makes 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm from a 349cc long-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled unit. It is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The semi-digital instrument console and the Tripper navigation pod will be carried forward in the 2024 Classic 350.

The new Royal Enfield Classic 350 is expected to retain the multiple variant strategy of the current model, likely including a more affordable option with a rear drum brake. The official pricing for the updated variants is yet to be announced, but an increase due to the new features is a possibility.

Adding to the excitement, there have been whispers of a Royal Enfield Classic 350 Bobber variant being unveiled alongside the standard update. The Bobber variant was spotted undergoing testing alongside the Royal Enfield Classic 350, sparking speculation that Royal Enfield might be planning a two-pronged attack on the market. If true, this could offer riders a more aggressive and style-focused option within the Royal Enfield Classic 350 lineup.

Royal Enfield Bobber 350: A Potential New Player

It's no secret that Royal Enfield is working on a new Bobber motorcycle based on the J-Platform. Recently, patent images of the Royal Enfield Bobber 350 emerged online, giving us a fair idea of its possible design and hinting at a potential launch in the Indian market soon.

The upcoming Royal Enfield Bobber 350 won't be a completely new motorcycle but rather a variant built on the RE Classic 350 platform. What will set it apart is its distinctive Bobber look. Expect a taller handlebar, and slightly forward-set footpegs for a unique riding posture. There will be split grab rails, white-wall tyres, and a different seat design. The leaked information suggests a removable rear seat, similar to the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650. The instrument console might be shared with the RE Classic 350 as it seems to have the same front end.

Mechanically, the Bobber 350 is expected to borrow the same 349cc engine found in other J-Platform bikes. Whether Royal Enfield opts for a relaxed tune like the Classic/Bullet 350 or a tune like the Meteor 350 remains to be seen. While Royal Enfield has yet to make an official announcement, rumours suggest a possible India debut soon along with the Royal Enfield Classic 350 update announcement. Pricing-wise, it could slot in between the RE Classic 350 and the RE Meteor 350 at ₹ 2.20 lakh to ₹ 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
