There are some new additions in the fourth season of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup.
Royal Enfield is back with another season of its successful racing event, the Continental GT Cup. Well into its fourth year, registrations for the prestigious racing competition commenced yesterday and it is open to both amateurs and professional racers. Registered participants will then be required to participate in the zonal selection rounds that will take place in Guwahati, Bangalore, Pune and New Delhi.
From these zonal selection rounds, Royal Enfield will select 48 amateur riders, with 12 riders from each zone. The selection round in Guwahati will take place on May 25-26, followed by Bangalore on June 1-2, Pune on June 8-9, and Delhi on June 15-16.
From there, riders will be flown down to Coimbatore at the Kari Race circuit for the final selection rounds that will take place from June 27-30, 2024. In this round, twelve of the fastest riders from each ‘Pro’ and ‘Amateur’ category will be selected for the main event.
The main race event of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup will take place over three months, starting in September and culminating in November. A total of eight races will take place in these months, which are further divided into three rounds. So, round 1 will take place from September 9-11, followed by round 2 on September 13-15, and after a month’s break the final round will take place in November from 15-17.
The fourth edition of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup will continue with the same Pro-Am series racing concept – that sees both professional and amateur riders compete with their respective Continental GT machines in the same grid. Additionally, Royal Enfield has also introduced a new Team Championship format that will see one amateur and professional rider team up. This round has been introduced to build a “new element of team strategy” that will “enhance rider’s skills” claims Royal Enfield.
But the biggest surprise this year has to be the inclusion of the Buddh International Circuit for its final round. This is the first time that the race-spec Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup machines will be racing at India’s largest racecourse. It should also change the perspective of amateurs towards racing, after all, they will be riding race-spec machines on the same circuit that has seen both top-tier racing events - MotoGP and F1.
