The Hunter 450 could be a city-friendly alternative to the adventure-oriented Himalayan 450.
Royal Enfield is actively working on a series of motorcycles. The brand made a significant move by launching the Himalayan 450 at Motoverse 2023. Acknowledging that not everyone prefers an adventure tourer, they are developing a more city-friendly iteration, the Hunter 450. Spy shots of the Hunter 450, which have surfaced, confirm the same.
There is no official launch date yet but we expect the Royal Enfield Hunter 450 to be available in the market in the second half of 2024. It is anticipated to be more budget-friendly than its counterpart, the Himalayan 450.
This upcoming Royal Enfield bike will feature the Sherpa 450 motor that Royal Enfield has developed. It is liquid-cooled and has a short-stroke configuration, delivering a robust 39.5 bhp and 40 Nm on the Himalayan 450. In a lighter package, the power could be particularly interesting and we expect the Hunter 450 to offer more sprightly performance than its ADV sibling.
Apart from the styling, the big change on the Hunter 450 is the inclusion of telescopic fork, this could have been done to keep the cost under check. While the monoshock has been retained, the travel would be lesser than the Himalayan 450’s unit and the wheel size is more road-centric with alloy wheels for added practicality. While the Himalayan 450 has switchable ABS, it is unclear if this feature will be present in the Hunter 450.
The motorcycle features a roadster design, incorporating familiar elements such as the LED headlight, turn indicators, and tail lamps from the Himalayan 450. With a conveniently reachable handlebar and mid-set footpegs, it ensures rider comfort for daily commuting and highway journeys. Given the smaller wheels and conventional suspension travel, seat height of the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycle will be more accessible.
The circular instrument cluster as seen on the test mule could be similar to the TFT unit as on the Himalayan 450. Without a specified timeline for its launch and considering Royal Enfield is concurrently testing multiple bikes, we believe this particular model is still some time away from its official release. Given the simpler components on the Royal Enfield Hunter 450 we expect it to be priced around ₹ 2.50 to ₹ 2.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
