Here’s how we think the upcoming bobber will stack up in Royal Enfield’s 650 cc lineup
Royal Enfield is gearing up for the launch of the Shotgun 650, its first factory custom bobber based on the cruiser Super Meteor 650, and we can’t wait to see how the bike will be priced. We have come to know of its specs, how it looks and feels, and what we should be expecting. So, here’s us making a possible case for how Royal Enfield might be stacking it up in its kitty.
The Shotgun 650 is based on the same platform that also underpins the Super Meteor 650. So, the same 648 cc, air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine will feature here as well with the same 46.40 bhp and 52.3 Nm. The six-speed gearbox will also feature as it is. However, we expect the final drive might be altered due to the different wheel sizes the Shotgun is rolling on.
Hardware components will also remain the same with a Showa-sourced 43mm USD fork at the front with 120mm travel, and twin-shock absorbers at the rear with 90mm travel (the SM 650 gets 100mm travel). The 320 mm and 300 mm front and rear disc brake combination will also remain the same as the Super Meteor 650.
Not as such. The RE SM 650 was the first bike of its kind to feature a USD fork and LED headlight. However, all these features have now trickled down, especially the latter, to other Royal Enfield models as well. Even the Tripper navigation pod is now a standard fitment with almost all premium Royal Enfield models or is offered as an option on others. So, the Shotgun 650 doesn’t have much novel features to offer. It will also be available with four new colour options: Stencil White, Green Drill, Plasma Blue, and Sheet Metal Grey.
Given what is on offer, we think that the Shotgun 650 is going to slot in between the Continental GT 650 and the Super Meteor 650. The all-chrome top variant of the Continental GT 650 is priced at ₹3.45 lakh, and the base Astral trim of the Super Meteor 650 costs ₹3.64 lakh. Hence, we expect it to be priced between ₹3.50 lakh to ₹ 3.60 lakh (all ex-showroom price, Chennai). In this price range, the Shotgun 650 will enjoy a unique spot in the Indian market, for there is no competition as such.
