Samuel's career with CEAT spanned over three decades, beginning in 1960 when he joined as a management trainee.

S. Samuel, former Managing Director of CEAT and a respected figure in India's tyre manufacturing industry, passed away peacefully on 19 December 2025, at the age of 91. Samuel's career with CEAT spanned over three decades, beginning in 1960 when he joined as a management trainee. He progressed through various roles before being appointed Managing Director, where he significantly influenced the company's manufacturing operations and organisational development.

His contributions extended beyond CEAT. Following the RPG Group's acquisition of the tyre manufacturer, Samuel served as Managing Director of Harrisons Malayalam Limited from 1988 to 1996, leading modernisation initiatives. He was appointed to the RPG Group Supervisory Board in 1993 and returned to CEAT as Managing Director in 1997.

Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Group, reflected on their working relationship. "Sam was the Head of Operations when I took charge as Managing Director of CEAT in 1984," Goenka said. "He was one of the most hardworking executives I have encountered and always forthright in his views. We trusted each other's instincts, and I drew deeply on his experience to help navigate the company," Goenka was quoted as saying.

During his tenure, Samuel was instrumental in establishing CEAT's Nashik plant, including its radial tyre manufacturing facility. Under his leadership, the company strengthened its position in the truck and bus tyre segment and expanded its international presence.

A road near CEAT's Bhandup facility continues to bear his name, serving as a tribute to his lasting impact on the organisation.

After retirement, Samuel resided in Bengaluru. He leaves behind a legacy that shaped the careers and professional values of numerous colleagues across the Indian tyre manufacturing industry.

CEAT, part of the RPG Group, is among India's leading tyre manufacturers, serving both domestic and international markets across 110 countries. The company has received recognition including the Deming Grand Prize for Total Quality Management and the World Economic Forum's Lighthouse Designation for Industry 4.0 adoption.
