Samsung-Fold-2

The 50-megapixel camera sensor takes good photos, but it is not considered to be flagship grade.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 5 was deemed a timid update for the pioneering foldable phone series. Recently, it has also been usurped by the OnePlus Open, which has been launched to rave reviews in India. One of the reasons why the OnePlus Open has been lauded is because of its Sony Lytia camera sensor, which has enabled it to have the best camera system on a foldable smartphone. But if reports are to be believed, Samsung's foldables could further slide behind as the next-generation model could also be using the same sensor as the Fold 5. This is surprising as Samsung has used the same GN3 camera sensor for the last two generations.

The 50-megapixel camera sensor takes good photos, but it is not considered to be flagship grade. The 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 12-megapixel 3x telephoto cameras are also there on the current Fold 5.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 was launched in India in July for Rs 1,54,999. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was also recently launched in yellow in response to the Oppo Find N3 Flip, which is a flip-style foldable by OnePlus's sister company.

Samsung could have even more rivals in the foldable space by next year as Honor is planning to launch its foldables in India. Tecno had also launched the Phantom V Fold and Phantom V Flip in India which have been significantly cheaper than Samsung's foldables. Samsung has challenges ahead as Chinese smartphone makers have caught up to what is a premium technology, which has been a great revenue driver for the South Korean giant.
