Hyundai has revealed the second-generation Palisade full-size SUV. The second-gen Palisade’s design is a radical departure from the previous generation and compared to the outgoing model, there’s seating for one more passenger. Powertrain details are yet to be revealed.
The new Palisade has a very boxy design now, unlike the first-gen model which had more curves. It has a large grille flanked by five-block LED headlamps. A thin strip of LED runs across the upper portion of the grille. The new Palisade rides on large 21-inch wheels with a turbine-like design, sitting below squared-off fenders. The taillamps too get a block-like design but with six slots instead of five. Because of the blacked-out A, B, and C pillars and the silver D-pillar, the new Palisade has a floating-roof design. It also gets a dual-pane sunroof.
The interior of the new Palisade is quite similar to the new Ioniq 9. While the latter has twin screens with a floating design, the Palisade also has twin screens but they are embedded in the dashboard. Both also have a similar curvy design for the dashboard. Both the Ioniq 9 and the new Palisade get a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and virtual instrument cluster. Both also have the drive selectors mounted on the steering column, which is now becoming a norm in Hyundai’s models.
While the Ioniq 9 has no transmission tunnel, the Palisade does and that tunnel robs it of some additional space between the dashboard and the centre console. However, the Palisade’s centre console can fold up to become a middle seat in the first row. It remains to be seen if this will be offered in markets outside South Korea. And while the exterior is boxy, the interior has a lot of curves. It can primarily be seen in the design of the dashboard, the oval AC vents and the circular door handles. Only one photo of the interior has been released but there could be more circular design elements inside.
Powertrain details of the new Palisade remain under wraps but it is expected to finally get a hybrid powertrain. The previous version of the Palisade came with a 2.2-litre diesel engine as well as a 3.5-litre and a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine. The new Palisade has been revealed in South Korea but is expected to reach markets like North America, Russia, Australia and South East Asia in 2025.
