Nissan says the Kicks has been designed keeping sneakers and sneakerheads in mind.
Nissan has revealed the second generation of the Kicks compact SUV. The Kicks was also available in India but was discontinued when BS6 Phase 2 norms kicked in April 2023. For the first time, the Kicks is available with all-wheel-drive (AWD) outside Japan.
The second-generation Kicks’ design is a radical departure from the first-gen model. It now features a more boxy design compared to the original model's rounded design language. Front and centre on the new Kicks is a chunky grille with a large Nissan logo and three horizontal slats. These slats also act as dividers between the LED DRLs. The new Kicks also gets thin, wraparound LED headlamps.
However, in profile, the second-gen Kicks retains some identity of the first-gen model with the rising window line towards the C-pillar. It is also completely different with straight lines and flat body panels. The new Kicks also gets fat, three-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, which look like a production version of the alloy wheels on the Hyper Adventure concept.
At the back, the new Kicks gets inverted L-shaped taillamps with horizontal lighting elements, similar to the DRLs in the front. The tailgate also extends out from the body, giving it sort of a notchback-like design.
Nissan says the Kicks has been designed keeping sneakers and sneakerheads in mind and is offered multiple bright colour options. It comes with seven dual-tone and one single-tone colour option.
Inside, the new Kicks gets two 12.3-inch displays where one is the infotainment touchscreen and the other is a digital instrument cluster. Lower trims get 7-inch units instead. It also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a Bose-tuned audio system, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags and more. The top-spec Kicks SR trim is also available with ProPilot Assist, Nissan’s ADAS suite. However, this system is limited to lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
The new Kicks has a very minimalistic interior, thanks in part to the dual-screen layout. The only physical control on the dashboard is the volume knob. All other controls, such as the HVAC, media controls and the hazard light, are placed in a touch-based panel.
Powering the Kicks is a 2.0-litre petrol engine developing 139 bhp and 190 Nm that is mated to a CVT. It comes in two drivetrain configurations – front-wheel-drive and AWD. The latter is available outside of Japan for the first time. There is no information if the Kicks will make a comeback in India. However, Nissan has plans to launch five new SUVs in India, read about it here.
