The T-Roc will only be available with hybrid powertrains.
Volkswagen has unveiled the second generation of the T-Roc, one of its popular SUVs with more than two million units sold worldwide. The new model is larger, more premium, and for the first time, offered with hybrid powertrains only.
The new T-Roc builds on the expressive DNA of its predecessor but adopts a cleaner and more confident stance. Its signature “hockey-stick” shoulder line and coupé-like rear remain, while an increase of 12 centimetres in length and a longer wheelbase give the SUV stronger proportions and more space. Standard LED headlights and optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix units, along with illuminated VW logos at the front and rear, enhance the modern look. Six exterior colours, including new shades like Canary Yellow, Flamed Red and Celestial Blue, are available, with the option of a contrasting black roof.
Inside, the T-Roc has moved significantly upmarket. The dashboard is wrapped in a new textile surface, paired with ambient lighting to create a lounge-like atmosphere. Higher quality materials throughout improve the cabin experience, while advanced features such as the new Driving Experience Control and, for the first time in this segment, a windscreen head-up display, underline the SUV’s premium aspirations.
The increase in dimensions benefits passengers directly, especially in the rear, where even occupants over 6 feet can sit comfortably. The new T-Roc also introduces premium seating options, including an ergoActive seat with electric adjustment and massage function on the Style trim. Luggage capacity has grown to 475 litres, adding everyday practicality to the mix.
The T-Roc will be available exclusively with electrified petrol engines. Two 48-volt mild-hybrid options are offered: a 1.5-litre eTSI producing 114 bhp and a more powerful 148 bhp version, both paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Full hybrids and a 2.0-litre TSI mild-hybrid with all-wheel drive will follow, along with the performance-focused T-Roc R.
In the T-Roc, Volkswagen has introduced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with features like Travel Assist, which allows assisted lane changes on highways, while Park Assist Pro offers near-autonomous parking with a memory function, even controlled remotely via smartphone. An exit warning system, which alerts passengers to approaching traffic or cyclists before opening the door, adds another layer of safety.
Volkswagen has streamlined the range into four clear trims: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line. Each caters to a different buyer profile, from functional to sporty. Optional equipment packages have been reduced by half, but popular features such as a Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive suspension and Black Style exterior design elements remain available. A new towing bracket, capable of carrying heavy e-bikes, is offered across the range.
The first-gen T-Roc was launched in India in 2020 and was sold in limited numbers as it was brought in as a completely built unit (CBU) import. Given that Volkswagen has brought in the Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI as CBU imports, it could be possible that the new T-Roc also follows suit.
