Skoda produces and assembles its cars in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has produced 5 lakh cars for Skoda Auto India across two of its manufacturing facilities. The two facilities are located in Chakan, Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad).
The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant has been in operation since 2000, with the Octavia being the first car produced there. Currently, this plant serves as a base for assembling the Skoda Kodiaq, while also assembling the Audi A4, A6, Q3, Q5 and Q7. The Chakan plant was established in 2009 and currently serves as a base for the Skoda Kushaq, Kylaq and Slavia as well as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus.
Despite being older, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant only contributes to around 30 per cent of the total production milestone of 5 lakh cars. This is due to the fact that it caters to low-volume, expensive models like the aforementioned Audis and the Skoda Kodiaq. Around 70 per cent of the number came from the Chakan plant.
SAVWIPL hasn’t mentioned which model has the highest contribution to the 5 lakh production milestone. Acko Drive has reached out to SAVWIPL, and we will update the story when we get a response.
The two plants also don’t only cater to the Indian market, the Pune plant is also used as a hub for exports for Skoda’s models. The brand exports completely built units (CBUs) of the Kushaq and Slavia to various international markets, as well as sends completely knocked-down kits (CKDs) to its newly established plant in Vietnam. SAVWIPL has not disclosed how many of the 5 lakh cars were built for exports. Acko Drive has asked for this number along with a percentage of CBU and CKD units built by Skoda.
