The newly launched Skoda Kodiaq Lounge 5-seater variant costs ₹6 lakh less than its 7-seater counterparts, and here’s where Skoda cut corners to achieve that.
Skoda has silently expanded the Kodiaq’s portfolio with the addition of a new 5-seater variant called Lounge. Priced at ₹39.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India), this is the most affordable Kodiaq variant at the moment compared to the Selection L&K and Sportline. For that less money, here’s what the new Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant misses out on in terms of specs and features:
The new Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant will be available in just three colour options: Moon White, Magic Black, and Graphite Grey. Both the Selection L&K and Sportline variants are available in six colour options, which also include brighter shades like Race Blue and Velvet Red.
The exterior of the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge trim retains its premium appeal, and it continues to run on 18-inch wheels as standard. It even shares the Mazeno alloy design from the Selection L&K variant, but without the aero trims.
While the cabin of the new Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant does not see much change in terms of quality, with all the essential premiums in place including a sliding panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smart dials for multiple function control, etc – However, infotainment screen is a smaller 10.25-inch unit instead of the 12.9-inch unit found on the other variants. Even the 13-speaker sound system is a standard unit instead of the Canton sound system, and the front seats are not available with heating and memory function.
Mechanically, the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant is powered by the same 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 201 bhp and 320 Nm. The engine continues to be mated to the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard, and 4x4 capability is available.
The new Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant is priced at ₹39.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable variant of the three. However, given the kind of features and luxury on offer, this seems like a great value for money luxury SUV, especially when you compare it with the likes of the BMW X1 or the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
