Sony has recently unveiled its latest innovation, the Lytia LYT-900, a 1-inch sensor, which has generated buzz on Weibo. This cutting-edge sensor is expected to make its debut in several high-end smartphones, including the Oppo Find X7 Pro, Vivo X100 Pro+, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
Marking Sony’s second venture into 1-inch sensors, following the successful IMX989, the LYT-900 boasts a remarkable 50-megapixel resolution and a subpixel size of 1.6 µm. The IMX989 has already graced several devices, such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Vivo X90 Pro, and is anticipated to feature in the upcoming Vivo X100 Pro as well.
The Oppo Find X7 Pro, poised to integrate the LYT-900 as its primary sensor, is expected to sport a quad-camera array. This setup will likely include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and dual telephoto lenses offering 3x and 6x optical zoom capabilities.
The LYT-900 follows the LYT-808 in Sony’s Lytia camera range, a sensor that first appeared in the OnePlus Open. It is also slated to be featured in the soon-to-be-launched OnePlus 12 in India, as well as in the Realme GT 5 Pro. The Vivo X100 Pro+ has been delayed as it will come a quarter after the Vivo X100 Pro launch in the first half of 2024.
This development signals a significant leap in smartphone camera technology, promising enhanced imaging capabilities in forthcoming models from leading smartphone manufacturers.
