Stellantis N.V. has introduced the STLA Frame platform, a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) platform tailored for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs. The STLA Frame platform will allow its BEVs a range of up to 800 km, while the range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) variant achieves up to 1,100 km. The platform supports a towing capacity of up to 6,350 kg, and a payload rating of 1,224 kg. Additional features, such as the ability to ford water up to 610 mm cater to customers with demanding off-road and heavy-duty requirements. The STLA Frame’s propulsion options set it apart. The BEV system includes Stellantis-designed front and rear electric drive modules (EDMs), delivering up to 250 kW each. These modules provide all-wheel drive and enable acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in as little as 4.4 seconds. The platform’s REEV variant features a generator powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE) to recharge the battery and propel the vehicle via EDMs. This eliminates a direct mechanical connection between the ICE and the wheels, optimizing efficiency and dynamics.
The modular design accommodates various propulsion systems, including hybrids and hydrogen fuel cells, underscoring Stellantis’ commitment to adaptability. Built with advanced high-strength steel, the STLA Frame prioritizes durability while reducing weight. Its widened centre section houses a liquid-cooled battery pack ranging from 159 to over 200 kWh, safeguarded by reinforced frame rails. A full-length belly pan minimizes aerodynamic drag, enhancing range and efficiency.
The platform supports advanced suspension systems, including air suspension, for a comfortable and capable ride under diverse conditions. It also provides flexible dimensions:
The platform offers advanced charging capabilities. BEVs support 800-volt DC fast charging, adding 161 km of range in just 10 minutes with up to 350 kW charging power. REEV configurations utilize 400-volt fast charging, gaining up to 80 km at the same time with 175 kW charging. Additionally, the vehicles can deliver bi-directional power, enabling them to charge other EVs, power homes during outages, or supply energy to the grid.
The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis’ broader electrification strategy outlined in its Dare Forward 2030 plan. The company aims for 100 per cent BEV passenger car sales in Europe and 50 per cent BEV sales in the U.S. by 2030. To achieve this, Stellantis is investing over €50 billion in electrification through the decade. The STLA Frame is the third BEV platform in the lineup, following the STLA Medium and STLA Large platforms introduced in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
