Both of the iconic machines are in working order, and can be very much used like normal race bikes without factory support.
Two iconic Ducati MotoGP motorcycles, once raced by Casey Stoner and Loris Capirossi, have sold for a combined £603,750 (which is equivalent to ₹6,68,82,810) at the recent Silverstone Festival auction. The sale marks a significant moment in motorcycle auction history, with Stoner's DucatiGP7 becoming one of the most expensive motorcycles ever sold at auction in the UK.
Stoner's 2007 championship-winning GP7 machine fetched an impressive £402,500 (₹4.46 Cr). This bike represented a pivotal moment in Ducati's racing history by being the first championship-winning bike of the 800 cc era and Ducati's last title-winning machine until 2022, when current MotoGP Champion Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia restored the team red back to glory. The GP7 weighs just 148kg dry, had secured 11 victories in the 2007 season, and Stoner had claimed ten of those wins.

The GP7 gets the same 17-inch and original 16.5-inch wheel sets, and it was recently recommissioned by Ducati expert Dave Allenby. The race bike is in running order and the new owner can ride it in parades and demonstration rides without requiring factory support.

On the other hand, Capirossi's 2003 Desmosedici GP3, a larger 989 cc machine, was sold for £201,250 (i.e. equivalent to ₹2,22,94,270). This historic bike is also significant for it marked the comeback of Ducati return to the Grand Prix premier class. In its debut year, the GP3 had secure just one victory and helped Ducati finish second in the constructors' world championship. Later, it had also achieved a podium finish in Ducati's MotoGP debut at the Japanese GP. And just like the GP7, the GP3 is also categorised as “very usable”.

Both motorcycles were purchased by a single international buyer, and the sale was part of a larger auction that had 34 other motorcycles and 170 luxury cars up for bid as well. This successful sale came after previous auction attempts in April saw both bikes fail to sell. But now that the bikes have got a place, one can expect to catch a glimpse of them at the next World Ducati Week.
