Which one is coming to India?
At the Japan Mobility Show 2023, Suzuki presented two scooters that sets template for its future mobility solutions.
The e-Burgman electric scooter is equipped with a replaceable lithium-ion battery system, providing a 44 km range and a top speed of 60 km/h. It uses an AC synchronous electric motor with a peak power of 5.3 bhp and 18 Nm of torque. The Suzuki electric scooter looks identical to the Burgman scooter sold in India but is quite hefty and tips the scale at 147 kg, while seat height is an accessible 780 mm. Suzuki is collaborating with Gachaco to establish battery-swapping stations in Japan. The e-Burgman electric scooter is currently undergoing demonstration experiments in Tokyo and Osaka to collect data for future electric vehicle development.
There have been previous sightings of the e-Burgman being tested in India. What we are intrigued about is the battery swapping system. We think that this could be a game changer for a user who is transitioning from a petrol scooter to an EV, solving the major anxiety of battery charge time. Even its Japanese compatriot, Honda is focusing on removable battery tech for the upcoming Activa electric scooter. The Suzuki e-Burgman is likely to make its India debut in the first half of 2024.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2023, Suzuki unveiled the hydrogen-powered Suzuki Burgman, a promising addition to their lineup. This innovative scooter is equipped with a 70Mpa hydrogen tank, and it's positioned above the floorboard. This tank is directly connected to an internal combustion engine rather than relying on a traditional fuel cell, showcasing Suzuki's commitment to exploring alternative energy solutions.
The Burgman retains its existing hardware setup: telescopic front fork, a monoshock, and a braking system with dual front and single rear disc brakes. It rides on 15-inch wheels with 120/70 front and 150/70 rear tyres. All the above specs are a temple for a large and comfortable maxi-scooter. While a production-ready version of this innovative hydrogen-powered Burgman is not yet available, it's highly anticipated to make its official debut in the near future. Suzuki's move into the hydrogen-powered scooter market represents a significant step toward more sustainable and eco-friendly mobility options for consumers. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development.
