The 800s are likely to arrive in the country via the CKD route
Suzuki is gearing up to launch the V-Strom 800DE and Suzuki GSX-8S at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024. Both of these bikes will be brought to India via the CKD route. Hopefully, this should mean that the Japanese bike maker can keep the pricing of the two quite competitive as it had done with the older V-Strom 650 XT. Additionally, bookings will commence on the same day as the launch.
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE is already available in the international market and was spotted testing a few months ago in the country. It features a 776 cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank, producing 83 bhp and 78 Nm, coupled with a six-speed gearbox. The bike has a steel chassis that is suspended on a fully adjustable Showa USD front fork and a rear monoshock. The braking setup includes front dual discs and a single disc at the rear. It rolls on 21-/17-inch tubeless spoke wheels that come shod with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tyres.
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE covers all the essentials with features like a bi-directional quickshifter, LED illumination, ride modes, ABS, low RPM assist, traction control, ride-by-wire, and a five-inch TFT display. Moreover, the manufacturer plans to provide accessories such as panniers, a top box, and more.
The Suzuki GSX-8S has a design that breaks away from the style seen on previous Suzuki GSX street nakeds. The stacked LED headlights and the shape of the cowl and tank extensions give it a sharp and aggressive streetfighter identity.
The Suzuki GSX-8S shares the same engine as the ADV, but with a different state of tune, producing 81.7 bhp and 77.6 Nm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox that features a standard bi-directional quickshifter. The chassis is supported by a KYB USD fork and preload-adjustable monoshock. With 17-inch wheels fitted with Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres, the bike offers the expected grip and agility of a street naked. Braking is handled by twin 310 mm discs at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear, effectively stopping this 202 kg bike.
The Suzuki GSX-8S boasts standard features for its class, such as all-LED lights, ride modes, and traction control, all facilitated by the introduction of ride-by-wire technology. Users can easily adjust these settings through menus on the 5-inch color TFT dash.
Suzuki is making a statement in the Indian motorcycle market with the upcoming V-Strom 800DE priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom). Additionally, the GSX-8S is set to enter the scene aggressively, targeting a price range of ₹ 9-9.5 lakh. These competitive price points position Suzuki's motorcycles as contenders against rivals like the Triumph Tiger Sport 850 and the Honda Transalp for the adventure bike while for the naked, it will go up against the Triumph Street Triple R, and Kawasaki Z900, promising an exciting era for motorcycle enthusiasts in India.
