Tacita Discanto is purposefully built for Dakar keeping in mind the rough and harsh terrain and weather conditions.
Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Tacita is set to participate in the Dakar Rally's Dakar Future - Mission 1000 category in 2024. The racing series focuses on decarbonizing technologies, including hydrogen engines, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
Scheduled from January 5 to 19, 2024, the Dakar Rally will see Tacita's Formula Corsa racing team competing on two Discanto electric motorcycles. These bikes have undergone testing since December 2022 in preparation for the challenging race.
The Tacita Discanto, designed for the Dakar Rally, features a motor and battery combination that keeps the weight down to 180 kilograms. The electric motorcycle has an electronically limited top speed of 150 kmph, ensuring optimal performance on the sandy desert tracks.
The Discanto is equipped with liquid-cooled motor and controller for enhanced reliability, a 5-speed gearbox for high-speed operation, and an advanced battery management system to monitor efficiency and performance. The inclusion of battery swapping technology allows for rapid changes, ensuring the bikes maintain peak performance throughout the rally.
Tacita's commitment to sustainability extends beyond the race itself. The Tacita racing team will be stationed in the T-Station racing area, adhering to a "No Noise and No CO2" policy. The facility will utilise solar panels, wind generators, and hydrogen energy to power its operations. Tacita plans to leverage the same grid to charge the race bikes' batteries, achieving complete independence from external fuel sources.
As the electric motorcycle industry gains momentum, Tacita's participation in the Dakar Rally's electric category marks a significant step towards showcasing the capabilities of electric and alternative fuel technologies in the world of motorsports. The racing community eagerly anticipates Tacita's performance in this challenging event, with the hope that it will pave the way for a new era of sustainable racing.
