It is only going to be applicable for the first 2000 internet-based service workers
At a time when several state governments are pulling away EV subsidies, Tamil Nadu has increased a unique and very helpful one. The state government will offer ₹20,000 subsidy on the purchase of an e-scooter. The catch? You have to be amongst the first 2000 internet-based gig workers registered with the state’s Gig Workers Welfare Board.
This is a truly helpful and environmental-saving initiative from the state as it should make the process of buying and thus, using an electric scooter all the more convenient for last mile delivery service operatives. Hence, the most affordable version of the Bajaj Chetak, i.e. the Chetak 2903, which retails at ₹95,998 (ex-showroom India) could be then availed at roughly ₹76,000. This makes it just as affordable as a Honda Activa or a TVS Jupiter 110.
Low cost mobility solutions are going to pick up in the coming few months. With the PM E-DRIVE subsidy likely to fizzle out, EV makers are going to have to come up with clever solutions to make their products accessible to the market. And constant discounts (*cough*Ola*cough) aren’t the only way ahead. Bajaj is already taking the necessary steps as a new low cost model of the Chetak was recently spotted testing.
