The Tata Altroz has exceeded the BNCAP scores of its direct competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
The Tata Altroz facelift has secured a full five-star rating in its Bharat NCAP crash tests, establishing itself as the safest premium hatchback in India so far in 2025. Tata Motors' focus on occupant protection is reflected in the Altroz’s impressive scores: 29.65 out of 32 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.90 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), both earning the highest possible 5-star rating. This achievement comes amidst growing awareness of vehicle safety standards in India, with Bharat NCAP's crash test scores recognised as a pivotal benchmark for car buyers nationwide. The safety ratings are applicable across all powertrain options: petrol, diesel and CNG.
During the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Altroz provided ‘Good’ protection for practically all critical driver and passenger body zones, with only the tibia zones rated as ‘Adequate’. The side pole impact test yielded a ‘Good’ score across all parameters for the driver, while the side movable deformable barrier test resulted in ‘Good’ ratings for the head and pelvis, ‘Adequate’ for the abdomen, and ‘Marginal’ for the chest. Child safety was equally prioritised, with nearly perfect scores for both the 18-month and 3-year-old dummies in dynamic and installation metrics.
The Tata Altroz’s compelling safety credentials set a new benchmark for hatchbacks. Its direct competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, received a lower 4-star Bharat NCAP rating in July 2025, scoring 26.52/32 for adult protection and 34.81/49 for child occupant safety. The Hyundai i20, another popular hatchback, has yet to undergo Bharat NCAP testing, and previously lagged behind in Global NCAP comparisons.
Bharat NCAP has tested a range of cars in 2025, and Tata Motors’ offerings, including the Harrier EV and Nexon EV, consistently receive high ratings, cementing its reputation as a safety leader. Other notable 5-star performers under Bharat NCAP include the Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Kia Syros, Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6, and Skoda Kylaq, each demonstrating robust adult and child occupant safety.
In a press statement, Mohan Savarkar, Vice President & Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd said, “The Altroz has once again redefined benchmarks by being the only car in its segment to achieve the coveted 5-star rating by Bharat-NCAP across petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains, making it the safest CNG-powered car in India. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to deliver cars that our customers can depend on with confidence.”
Beyond these crash test scores, the Altroz offers 6 airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, 360-degree cameras, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts, and seatbelt reminders for all rows —features that underline its appeal to safety-conscious buyers. The Altroz is priced between ₹6.89 lakh and ₹11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an accessible choice without compromising on safety.
