Tata Motors signed a MoU with 4 charge point operators to expedite the process of building a strong charging infrastructure.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) has partnered with key Charge Point Operators (CPOs) – Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon. The collaboration, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to improve the nation's charging infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility.
Chargezone, Glida, Statiq and Zeon, distinguished CPOs with an aggregate network of nearly 2,000 charging points across vital cities, join hands with Tata Motors to deploy over 10,000 additional charging stations in the next 12-15 months. This collaboration takes advantage of Tata Motors’ extensive telematics insights drawn from a fleet of more than 1.15 lakh Tata EVs navigating Indian roads.
Tata is set to actively support the four CPOs in setting chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners, sharing invaluable insights into charger usage patterns. This collaboration not only reinforces the existing charging ecosystem but also charts a course towards a more expansive and accessible infrastructure.
The collaborative effort extends beyond charging stations, with TPEM exploring the possibility of a smart payment gateway through co-branded RFID cards. These cards aim to streamline the payment process for Tata EV users, offering convenience and efficiency. Additionally, customers can benefit from loyalty programs offered by the respective CPOs and access a dedicated customer care helpline for assistance.
Mr. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., highlighted the critical role of convenient charging infrastructure in driving faster EV adoption. He said, “EV adoption is a national imperative to address urban pollution, and convenient charging infrastructure is a key enabler for driving faster EV adoption. The need of the hour for accelerating a nationwide charging ecosystem is open collaboration.”
Drawing on global case studies highlighting the correlation between accessible charging infrastructure and increased EV adoption, this innovative collaboration between major CPOs and TPEM is poised to expedite the development of charging infrastructure in the country. The initiative is anticipated to play a pivotal role in making EV adoption more widespread.
This partnership builds upon Tata’s existing collaborations, including a robust charging infrastructure developed with Tata Power, resulting in over 4,900 public chargers across the country. Moreover, TPEM's collaboration with BPCL aims to establish 7,000 chargers in the coming year.
CPO executives, including Kartikey Hariyani of Chargezone, Awadhesh Kumar Jha of Glida, Raghav Arora of Statiq, and Karthikeyan KP of Zeon Charging, expressed commitment and excitement about the collaboration. The collective vision is to redefine the EV landscape, introduce cutting-edge technologies, and pioneer solutions that will shape the industry for years to come.
