Tata Motors is set to revolutionise its SUV lineup with the introduction of an all-new architecture, named ATLAS—Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture. ATLAS is the fifth vehicle architecture in Tata Motors' expanding portfolio, and it is designed to underpin all future SUVs from the company. The platform is intended to broaden Tata Motors' addressable market, which currently stands at 53 per cent, to 65 per cent following the launch of new vehicles based on ATLAS. The company has even more ambitious plans to cater to 80 per cent of the market by the decade's end.

With SUVs contributing to 66 per cent of Tata Motors' total sales, the move to ATLAS is a strategic one. The platform will debut with the highly anticipated Curvv Coupe SUV and will likely serve as the base for future models, including the upcoming Sierra SUV. The company's top-selling Nexon compact SUV may also transition to this new architecture.
The ATLAS platform's design emphasizes crashworthiness and safety. It features a continuous framework that avoids abrupt changes in load paths, ensuring that impact loads are evenly distributed across multiple paths during a crash. This design is expected to offer a more uniform and symmetrical safety performance, which could be a significant selling point for safety-conscious consumers.

Moreover, the ATLAS architecture is highly adaptable, supporting various body styles and multiple powertrain options, including petrol and diesel engines with both manual and automatic transmissions. This flexibility is crucial in a market where consumer preferences are increasingly diverse.
In an era where vehicles are becoming increasingly software-driven, ATLAS is designed to accommodate future technologies with its advanced electric architecture and cloud platform. The Curvv, which is the first model based on ATLAS, includes an integrated cockpit-to-wheel controller that supports multiple displays and a centralized body controller. The vehicle also features over 24 PCUs (Powertrain Control Units), showcasing the platform's capability to support complex and advanced automotive systems.
