Tata Motors’ September PV Sales Surge 47% YoY, Secure Strong 2nd Spot Behind Maruti

Riding the wave of GST-2.0 reforms and festive demand, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles delivered a record 59,667 domestic wholesales in September 2025, marking a 45% increase over the 41,063 units sold in September 2024 and the highest monthly tally in the company’s history. This performance vaulted Tata to a firm second place in the passenger vehicle (PV) market, surpassing Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India.


After a soft Q2 (June–August), Tata’s domestic PV dispatches rebounded sharply:

  • June 2025: 37,083 units (–15% YoY)
  • July 2025: 39,521 units (–12% YoY)
  • August 2025: 41,001 units (–7% YoY)
  • September 2025: 59,667 units (+45% YoY)

Sequentially, September’s volumes rose 45% over August, underscoring the festive-season revival spurred by lower GST rates and attractive pricing.


In Q2 FY26 (July–September), Tata Passenger Vehicles logged 140,189 domestic wholesales, up 8% from 129,930 units in Q2 FY25. Electric vehicle (EV) sales surged 59% YoY to 24,855 units, contributing 17% of total volumes and highlighting Tata’s leadership in green mobility.

Market Position vs. Rivals

Tata Motors surpassed sales with storng competition from Mahindra and Mahindra and Even Hyundai. 

Mahindra & Mahindra recorded 56,233 UV dispatches in September 2025, a 10% YoY rise, driven by strong SUV demand underpinned by GST-led price cuts.

Hyundai Motor India wholesaled 51,547 domestic PVs, up 1% YoY, with SUVs constituting 72.4% of volumes and the Creta hitting a record 18,861 units.

Maruti Suzuki retained its market-leading position, significantly ahead of Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai, powered by its mini and compact car portfolio.

Toyota comes in 5th place with sales of 31,091 in September.
