The company also announced the introduction of Mega Chargers in select cities
In a bid to boost EV sales in the country, Tata Motors announced that it will add 4 lakh charging stations by 2027. It currently has 18000 charging including Home chargers, community chargers and public chargers. That number is already more than the CNG stations currently in the country. The added number will lead to positive consumer sentiment for EVs according to the company.
Tata Motors also announced that it will set up Mega Chargers and will have partners like Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq and Zeon, who will add to the number. The Mega Chargers will focus on markets like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and in phase 1, there will be 500 that will come up. These Mega Chargers will have ultra-fast 120 kW chargers.
While priority access will be given to Tata EVs at these Mega Chargers, the company has opened it up for use to other OEMs as well. Speaking at the press conference, Shailesh Chandra, President and MD, Tata Motors, said, “Charging should be inclusive and not exclusive, because that is what will help growth of EVs. Making it exclusive will restrict people from using it, we do not want to do that. There is a likelihood of 1-1.5 million charging stations coming up in India by 2030, so inclusivity, will help build an EV ecosystem”
Tata Motors already has a large portfolio when it comes to EVs and it will expand it in the coming years. With ‘open collaboration 2.0’ the company is setting up an EV ecosystem, which will help EVs get the attention they deserve.
