Tata Nexon emerged as the standout performer.
In a significant shift, Tata Nexon secured the top spot in December 2023 car sales, marking a departure from Maruti's long-standing dominance. The top 25 selling cars represented a substantial 79 per cent of total December sales, with Maruti Suzuki contributing from its 9 models, Hyundai with 5, Mahindra with 4, Tata with 3, Toyota with 2, and Kia & Honda with 1 each. Notably, Maruti Suzuki models constituted over 43 per cent of the top 25's volumes.
Amit Kamat, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited., said, "We are delighted to note that Nexon is highest selling brand in Dec 2023 across all brands. Also, Punch has secured the second position among SUVs and ranks third in overall passenger car sales. The strong boost in sales is a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles that resonate with our customers’ evolving needs. As the new year unfolds, we remain confident of continuing our bullish performance, backed by innovation and technology, ensuring consistent enhancements in our consumer delight journey."

Tata Nexon emerged as the standout performer, claiming India's best-selling car title for December 2023. The model consistently achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing 15,000 units in the petrol/diesel/EV variants and recording 15,284 dispatches in December. Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire secured the second position with 14,012 units, while another Tata model, Punch, ranked third with over 13,700 dispatches. This marks a historic moment in the automotive industry, with two of the top three selling cars hailing from Tata's stable.
Maruti's Ertiga held its ground as the best-selling MPV, securing the fourth position. Notably, Scorpio entered the top 10 with 11,355 dispatches, surpassing popular models like Seltos and Creta. Hyundai Creta faced a setback, falling out of the top 10, while Venue claimed the ninth spot. However, the upcoming launch of the refreshed Creta on January 16, is anticipated to rejuvenate Hyundai's numbers. Newly launched Seltos remained Kia's top-selling model, achieving an impressive volume of around 10,000 units.
This shift in the sales landscape highlights the changing dynamics in the automotive market, with Tata Nexon's ascent and Maruti's slipping from the top position after a prolonged period of dominance.
