According to our sources, Tata Motors will launch the updated Punch later this year.
Tata Motors appears to be preparing a comprehensive update for one of its best-selling models, the Tata Punch. Launched in 2021, the micro SUV has consistently featured among the top performers in the company’s passenger vehicle portfolio. The upcoming facelift, captured recently during road testing in Pune, suggests that the model is set to receive a significant visual and feature overhaul aligned with Tata’s latest design philosophy. According to our sources, Tata Motors will launch the updated Punch later this year.
The test vehicle was seen heavily camouflaged, yet certain key design elements were distinguishable, drawing clear parallels to the Punch EV that debuted earlier in 2024. This indicates that the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Punch will now adopt Tata Motors’ new ‘digital’ design language, which first appeared on the updated Nexon EV.
At the front, the facelifted Punch is expected to feature a connected LED daytime running light (DRL) strip that doubles as sequential turn indicators, a trend increasingly common across Tata’s refreshed lineup. A closed-off grille design, though functional in EVs, may be visually carried over in the ICE version for aesthetic continuity. The signature split headlamp layout will continue, but the lower units will now house vertically stacked LED projector lamps with integrated cornering fog lamps.
The silhouette of the car remains unchanged, maintaining its compact SUV proportions. However, updates include newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels and mild revisions to the LED taillights’ internal graphics at the rear.
Interior updates are more substantial. Spy shots reveal a revamped dashboard design similar to that seen in the Altroz facelift and the Punch EV. A prominent 10.25-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen, developed by Harman, now dominates the centre console. The system is expected to support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Tata’s iRA connected car suite, and a range of voice-activated commands.
The Punch facelift also adopts Tata’s new-generation flat-bottom steering wheel, featuring an illuminated brand logo and multifunction toggle controls. The lower console appears to house a redesigned climate control panel and multiple connectivity options, including a 45W Type-C charging port, a standard USB slot, and a 12V socket.
Despite the visual and technological updates, the Punch facelift is not expected to receive any mechanical changes. It will continue with the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will remain unchanged, with a 5-speed manual and an AMT option available. The bi-fuel i-CNG variant will also carry forward, delivering 73.4 bhp and 103 Nm of torque.
