Tecno is offering a smartphone that blends the hardware and software technology found in some of the world's best camera phones.
Tecno Mobiles, the leading smartphone brand in Africa, is making headway in the Indian market with a series of high-end devices. After the launch of the Phantom V Fold last month, Tecno is introducing a photography-centric product, the Camon 20 Premier 5G. Although this device is anticipated to be priced under Rs 50,000, a considerable shift for a company recognized for its budget-friendly offerings, the specifications suggest it's worth the price.
The Camon 20 Premier 5G features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It operates on the HiOS platform, which is built upon Android 13. Additionally, Tecno promises it will be among the earliest devices in India to receive the Android 14 update. The phone comes equipped with a robust 5,000 mAh battery. Still, its standout features are its distinctive design and advanced camera technology.
Equipped with a 50-megapixel primary camera that boasts an f/1.5 aperture, sensor-shift stabilization, and an RGBW sensor, the device sets itself apart in the crowded smartphone market. The secondary ultra-wide camera, with a 108-megapixel resolution, also doubles as a macro camera. The phone also features a depth sensor and a ring flash. The sensor-shift stabilization, which can compensate for 5,000 shakes per second—more than standard optical stabilization methods—significantly enhances low-light imaging and video capture. The RGBW sensor's increased light sensitivity gives the Camon 20 Premier an edge in low-light photography.
Priced likely under Rs. 50,000, the phone's hardware suite is impressive. Sensor-shift stabilization, a feature first introduced by Apple with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and RGBW sensors, popularised by Huawei's highly-rated photography phones, are both present in this device. Tecno has also incorporated its proprietary portrait master algorithm, trained with 50 million deep skin tone photos, akin to the dual-tone technology Google employs in its top-tier Pixel phones.
In essence, Tecno is offering a smartphone that blends the hardware and software technology found in some of the world's best camera phones, but at a more accessible price point.
