Tesla says its V4 Supercharger can charge a Model Y enough to drive 267km in 15 minutes.
Tesla has announced that its first “Superchargers” in India will be operational starting on Monday, August 4. The four Supercharger booths will be set up next to four slower Destination chargers at One BKC, a high-end office tower in central Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex not too far from the company’s first India showroom, which was inaugurated just a few weeks ago.
The Tesla Charging Station will feature four V4 DC Superchargers, capable of delivering 250kW each. Using these will cost ₹24 per kilowatt. There will also be four much slower 11kW AC booths, with usage priced at ₹14 per kilowatt. The company says this allows Tesla drivers to choose the most appropriate charging solution for their needs – those who are running very low or need a quick boost will have to pay significantly more than anyone else who doesn’t mind waiting.
A V4 Supercharger should be able to charge a Model Y enough to drive 267km in 15 minutes, which in Mumbai will cover five round trips between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, in the northern suburb of Andheri, and the Gateway of India monument at Colaba in South Mumbai.

Tesla says the charging experience is simple and convenient. The Tesla app shows real-time charger availability, and cars can begin preconditioning their batteries for charging as they are approaching the stall. Users simply have to drive up and plug their cars in without any additional steps for authentication or payment. The app will notify a user of charging status even if they step away from their car. Charging speed can vary, based on real-time battery health and temperature monitoring, among several factors. Tesla also promises 99.95 uptime for its Superchargers.
At the time of its official India launch, Tesla announced that it would soon launch 16 Superchargers and 16 Destination chargers in and around Mumbai, with clusters at BKC, Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. Similarly, 16 Superchargers and 15 Destination chargers are set to come up at Noida, Saket, Aerocity, and Golf Course Road to serve customers in the Delhi NCR region, where Tesla is also set to open its second showroom very soon.

Tesla began accepting online pre-orders for the Model Y, its sole offering in India so far, shortly after opening its showroom, ending many years of anticipation and delays. The standard-range Model Y is priced starting at ₹59.89 lakhs in India, while the extended range version costs ₹67.89 lakhs, both before taxes. The company has since then expanded availability from four cities to the entire country, although registrations in Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and Gurugram will be prioritised. While the company did promise to begin delivering orders within Q3 2025 which has already begun, it has not yet officially confirmed that cars have reached the first set of owners in India.
While Tesla did offer free, unlimited Supercharging for some early buyers in the US, customers here in India will have to pay based on usage. In some countries, the company also charges an idle fee roughly equivalent to US$1/€1 (approximately ₹100) per minute for users who do not remove their cars from a stall once charging is complete. In other countries, a congestion charge might apply, penalising users who charge beyond 80 percent when there is heavy demand for Supercharger stalls. No such charges have yet been announced for Tesla’s charging locations in India.
For a limited time, Tesla buyers in India will receive a free wall charger that can be installed at their homes.
