Chevrolet has entered the hypercar realm with the Corvette ZR1X. It’s an all-wheel drive, hybrid version of the Corvette, producing upwards of 1200 bhp, making it the most powerful version of Chevrolet’s performance car.
The Corvette ZR1X is based on the Corvette ZR1 but also incorporates the powertrain from the Corvette E-Ray. This means the ZR1X gets the 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 churning out 1064 bhp and 1124 Nm, mated to an electric motor developing 186 bhp and 197 Nm. Combined, the ZR1X produces 1250 bhp. The engine sends power to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the electric motor powers the front wheels. Chevrolet claims it can do 0-100 kmph in around 2 seconds and complete the quarter mile (400 m) drag in under 9 seconds.
Strangely, the ZR1X doesn’t have a lot of cosmetic differences from the ZR1. It still gets an aggressive body kit, huge splitter and diffuser, and a massive rear wing (courtesy of the ZTK Performance Package). With the ZTK pack, the ZR1X also gets more aerodynamically focused body parts, such as canards, underbody enhancements and a gurney flap. This ZTK pack gives the ZR1X more than 500 kg of downforce at top speed.
The ZR1X gets 10-piston callipers at the front and 6-piston callipers at the rear, mounted on 16.5-inch carbon ceramic rotors, which Chevrolet says are the largest fitted to any Corvette. The Corvette ZR1X also gets two body styles. It can be had with either a hard top or a hard top convertible body style. Both body styles also get magnetic ride control, which allows the suspension to be altered as per the vehicle’s mode, driver input and road surface.
