From the revival of a legendary British brand to classics coming to terms with modernity.
As India celebrated its 78th Independence Day, the Brits made their presence felt yet again and this time in the two-wheeler space. From popular British-badged motorcycles coming up to terms with modernity to the revival of a major British two-wheeler brand in the country that is owned by an Indian now. So, to put it short – this week was nothing short of drama.
Two years after Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) made a comeback in its home country, the U.K., the roadster motorcycle maker finally made its way to India. And how! Launched at ₹2.99 lakh, it’s the only 650 cc, single-cylinder engine-powered motorcycle in the market. The BSA Gold Star 650 is a proper looker as well, that hasn’t deviated from its roots much thus making it a modern classic. For a more detailed breakdown of its aesthetics and how it sticks to its original design, check out our first-look review below:
On the other hand, India’s favourite roadster and the epitome of pure motorcycling – the Royal Enfield Classic 350 – was finally updated with the inclusion of a few modern features. From LED lighting to new colour options, the Classic looks more regal now. You can check out the details of which have all been mentioned in the video below:
Carrying forward its small mechanical tweaks and cosmetic updates, Jawa-Yezdi launched the Jawa 42 roadster albeit with a price reduction. Yes, despite the updates made to the engine for better NVH levels and refinement, the Jawa 42 has become more affordable by ₹17,000. Hero dropped a silent nugget of information by confirming its all-scooter product offensive for the upcoming festive season. The largest manufacturer of two-wheelers will be launching not just one, but three brand-new spanking scooters, most of which will cater to enthusiasts. And one of the most anticipated launches of them all would be the Hero Xoom 160. A proper maxi-scooter, with a design that slightly hints at the ADV direction. And lastly, homegrown electric two-wheeler maker, Ather Energy gained its Unicorn status this Independence week. An exclusive club which just has 106 companies from India, the Bengaluru-based brand with a fresh funding of $600 crore ($71 million) from the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) helped gain this status.
