Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Sprint Edition in India at a price of ₹48.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new variant adds a sportier touch to Toyota’s flagship sedan with dual-tone styling, matte black alloy wheels, and an exclusive sports kit. Bookings for the car have opened online.
The Toyota Camry has been on sale in India since 2002 and remains one of the most aspirational premium sedans in the market. Globally introduced in 1982, the Camry has built a reputation for refined performance, comfort, and reliability.
The new Camry Sprint Edition is powered by a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force petrol engine with Toyota’s 5th-Gen Hybrid Electric System, paired with an e-CVT transmission. Together, they produce 230 PS of power while delivering a best-in-class mileage of 25.49 kmpl.
Key highlights include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, pre-collision system, nine airbags, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and a wireless charger. Customers can choose from five sporty dual-tone colours, and Toyota is offering an 8-year/1,60,000 km hybrid battery warranty.
While Toyota sells thousands of Fortuners and Innovas every month, the Camry Hybrid remains a niche product in India. Industry data shows that Camry sales average 250–350 units annually, accounting for less than 1% of Toyota’s total volumes.
However, within the premium hybrid sedan space, the Camry dominates with over 70% market share, mainly because there are no direct hybrid rivals in the ₹40–50 lakh bracket.
The Toyota Camry’s rivals in India include the Skoda Superb (set to return in 2025), and entry-level luxury sedans like the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The Honda Accord Hybrid, once its biggest competitor, has been discontinued.
With the Camry Sprint Edition, Toyota is targeting younger buyers who want a blend of luxury, mileage, and sporty design in a hybrid sedan.
