This version of the Fortuner is capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol.
Toyota has unveiled a version of the Fortuner which runs on 100 per cent bioethanol fuel at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). It is called the Toyota Fortuner Flexy Fuel prototype and it has been showcased alongside hydrogen-powered Corolla Cross H2 concept and E-100 compatible Corolla Cross at the auto show.
According to reports, the 2.7-litre petrol motor used in the Fortuner has been heavily updated by Toyota. There have been crucial changes to the fuel intake system, fuel pump, fuel tank, engine head, spark plugs and more. This allows the Fortuner Flexy Fuel to run on 100 per cent Ethanol (E-100). This modified engine produces 161 bhp and 243 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
The Toyota Fortuner sold in India gets both a diesel and petrol engine options. There’s also Fortuner Legender which doesn’t get 4x4 but does have some cosmetic changes in comparison to the standard Fortuner. Given that Toyota has showcased a flex fuel version of the Toyota Corolla Altis Hybrid last year, it is a possibility that this Fortuner could find its way to our shores.
