Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has introduced new 48V mild-hybrid variants of its flagship SUVs, the Fortuner and Legender, under the Neo Drive branding. These variants mark a segment-first in India’s ladder-frame SUV market by incorporating electrified diesel technology aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency, drivability, and environmental performance. The Fortuner Neo Drive is priced at ₹44.72 lakh, while the Legender Neo Drive carries a price tag of ₹50.09 lakh (ex-showroom).
Variants | Prices (ex-showroom, India) |
---|---|
Fortuner Neo Drive | ₹44.72 lakh |
Legender Neo Drive | ₹50.09 lakh |
The most significant update in the new variants is the integration of a 48V mild-hybrid system paired with Toyota’s existing 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This hybrid system includes a belt-integrated starter generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery. Toyota claims the tech enhances low-end torque, improves throttle response, and enables quieter engine restarts, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Toyota also claims better fuel economy and reduced emissions, although official mileage figures have not been disclosed.

Another key addition is the Smart Idle Start-Stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine at idle, helping conserve fuel in city conditions. The Neo Drive system also allows regenerative braking, where the battery recharges during deceleration, increasing overall efficiency.
In terms of drivability, Toyota has added the Neo Drive Boost Assist, which supports smoother acceleration and torque delivery when required. The Multi-Terrain Select feature, already offered in select trims, gets optimised in the Neo Drive grade to adjust traction and throttle response depending on the terrain.

Visually and functionally, both models retain their familiar body-on-frame build and design language but receive notable feature enhancements. A 360-degree panoramic camera—a first for these models—has been added. Wireless smartphone charging is now standard on Neo Drive trims, and a Neo Drive badge distinguishes the variants visually from standard diesel versions.
While the Fortuner Neo Drive continues to target buyers seeking rugged, off-road-capable SUVs, the Legender Neo Drive offers a more urban and premium appeal with its dual-tone bodywork, sleeker front fascia, and split LED headlamps. Inside, both SUVs receive leather upholstery and soft-touch materials.
On the safety front, there’s no compromise. The new variants carry forward Toyota’s comprehensive package, including seven airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Assist, Traction Control, emergency door unlock, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, among others.
To support ownership, Toyota is offering finance plans, including up to 8-year loan options, Smart Balloon finance, and bundled services like extended warranty and roadside assistance. The standard warranty remains 3 years/100,000 km and can be extended to 5 years/220,000 km.
