While there is no definite timeline for when the results will be released, they are expected to come very soon.
The crash test ratings for cars like the Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Tata Altroz are due to be released by Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP). When these results will be introduced remains a mystery, but we have good reason to believe that it won’t take very long. We’ll explain why.
Very recently, we saw the crash test ratings of cars, like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Innova Hycross, from BNCAP. When these results were released, BNCAP and the brands had mentioned that the scores don’t apply to their respective rebadged versions. This clearly indicates that the Indian safety watchdog or the respective brands will crash test the Toyota Glanza (rebadged Baleno) and Maruti Suzuki Invicto (rebadged Innova Hycross). When BNCAP or the brands will test these cars remains a mystery, as we don’t even have clarity if they’ve been tested yet or not.
Since the Baleno (with six airbags) got four stars for adult safety and three stars for child safety, expect the Glanza to perform well. Interestingly, the Glanza recently got six airbags as standard across the range. Likewise, the Innova Hycross got five stars for adult and child safety and the Invicto is expected to perform similarly too.
However, we do know that BNCAP has tested the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and even the Tata Altroz. How? Well, images of the Grand Vitara’s crash test were leaked exactly a year ago, in July 2024. On the other hand, Tata Motors itself teased the crash test of the Altroz, first at the launch of the hatchback, then by releasing a teaser on various social media platforms.
While the results are yet to be announced, the images and teasers are proof enough that the tests were conducted, just the results are yet to be released. The Grand Vitara could very well be another 5-star car for Maruti Suzuki, after the Dzire. The Altroz facelift had a 5-star rating for adult safety and 4-star rating for child safety from Global NCAP when it was tested in 2020, and the new results are expected to improve on them since Tata Motors has reinforced the safety capabilities of the Altroz.
We also feel that BNCAP has more cars in store for us than these four cars. We expect BNCAP to release results for the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta Electric, Hyundai Exter as well as Kia Carens Clavis and Clavis EV.
