As part of the voluntary recall campaign, Toyota and Lexus plan to reprogram the Transmission Control Computer software, which controls the Transmission Performance.
Toyota and Lexus have issued a voluntary recall for the Land Cruiser and LX SUVs over a possible software glitch in the gearbox unit. The recall campaign affects 969 units of the Toyota Land Cruiser, which were manufactured between September 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Meanwhile, 117 of the Lexus LX have been affected, and were produced between March 6, 2025, and September 29, 2025.
In the information shared with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Toyota said, “The subject vehicle is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission that contains linear solenoids to control the shifting of gears. If solenoid failure occurs under certain driving conditions, the transmission control unit and the Engine ECU may not communicate the failure, resulting in the transmission over-revving in certain gears. This could result in damage to the transmission and a loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds. If damage occurs to the transmission housing, there is also the possibility for transmission fluid to leak from the housing.”

As part of the voluntary recall campaign, Toyota and Lexus plan to reprogram the Transmission Control Computer software, which controls the Transmission Performance. Both the Land Cruiser LC 300 and LX are underpinned by the same platform, and share the same powertrain as well. The India-spec models get the 3.5-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 engine, paired with the 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The gear shift on this 10-speed electronically controlled transmission (ECT) is a set of linear solenoids. Should one of these solenoids fail, the transmission will end up over-revving in certain gears. This is due to the gearbox’s electronic control module not communicating the failure to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). This can lead to a loss of power at high speeds, apart from damaging the transmission unit.
Toyota and Lexus plan to address the issue by reprogramming the electronic nodules controlling the transmission and engine. The company’s dealerships will be reaching out to customers of the affected vehicles for details regarding the recall. At the same time, Land Cruiser and LX owners can also reach out to dealerships, to check if their vehicle is a part of the recall.
