Hot hatchbacks are arguably a dying breed and the Toyota Yaris GR Edition is one of the last surviving members of a rare clan. The Japanese carmaker has now revealed a more potent version of this hot hatch at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 in Japan. Called the Morizo RR special edition of the GR Yaris, this new special edition of Toyota Yaris is limited to only 100 units.
The GR Yaris Morizo RR derives its name from the Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda, aka Morizo, an applies insights gained through the challenge of competing as Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing (TGRR) in the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race.
As expected, there’s a lot going for the Morizo RR special edition. On the outside, the ultra-limited GR Yaris Edition features a prominent carbon-fibre rear wing, a redesigned front splitter, and bespoke side skirts. It is further distinguished by a lightweight carbon-fibre hood, unique matte bronze alloy wheels, and yellow brake calipers. The Morizo RR variant is also offered in an exclusive shade called Gravel Khaki.

Not just visuals but Toyota has added a lot of premium hardware to the GR Yaris Morizo RR. For instance, Toyota has optimised the suspension to make it more capable across uneven road surfaces, including at the Nurburgring, due to the added downforce produced by the new wing.
Toyota has eliminated the four-wheel-drive system’s Gravel mode, which previously delivered a 53:47 front-to-rear torque split, and replaced it with a new Morizo mode that distributes power evenly in a 50:50 ratio. This mirrors the setup offered by the original GR Yaris in its discontinued Track mode. In addition, Toyota has made revisions to the electric power steering.

The cabin has also been upgraded with sport touches. The GR Yaris Morizo RR features a newly developed, motorsport-inspired steering wheel. It is wrapped in Alcantara with contrasting yellow accents and incorporates bespoke switches for audio and cruise control functions. The instrument cluster also gains a dedicated, model-specific gauge display.

Not just the name, but the GR Yaris Morizo RR sources its powertrain from the Lexus LBX Morizo RR. Powering the hot hatch is a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 297 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque, although Toyota is yet to reveal the official output for the GR Yaris. This unit is paired with an 8-speed Gazoo Racing automatic transmission.
