The new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is the latest addition to the sub-compact segment. Regardless of its slightly unique coupe-SUV design, it will compete against the likes of the Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Hyundai Venue.
The Renault Kiger is available in five broad trims: RXE, RXL, RXT, RXT(O), and RXZ. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is available in six variants: E, S, S+, G, V and V (DT). While the French compact SUV is priced from ₹6 lakh to ₹11.23 lakh, the Japanese option is priced from ₹7.73 lakh to 12.87 lakh
Unlike the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, the Tata Nexon is available in four broad trim levels, with three engine options (both petrol and diesel) and four gearbox combinations. There is no CNG iteration of the Nexon, unlike the Urban Cruiser Taisor. As for its price, the sub-compact Tata SUV is priced from ₹8.15 lakh to ₹15.60 lakh, which makes it ₹42,000 more expensive than the entry-level variant, and the top-spec variant is expensive ₹2.73 lakh more than the top-spec Urban Cruiser Tysor variant.
The Mahindra XUV300 has two petrol and a diesel engine option. Unlike the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor which is available with one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged petrol engine option. However, both are available in five broad trim levels. The Mahindra XUV300 is available in W2, W4, W6, W8 and W8(O) trims priced between ₹7.99 lakh to ₹14.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is quite affordable in comparison starting at ₹7.73 lakh and tops out at ₹12.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Hyundai’s second most popular product in its portfolio, the Venue, is also available in five broad trim levels - E, S, S+, SX, and SX(O). Priced between ₹7.94 lakh to ₹13.48 lakh, the Hyundai SUV is slightly more expensive compared to the Toyota Taisor.
Based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the mechanicals, hardware components and features list are the same in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. However, unlike the Fronx which starts from ₹7.51 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Urban Cruiser Taisor starts from ₹7.73 lakh with the base E trim with the 1.2-litre engine paired to a 5-speed AMT.
Similarly, while the top-spec Alpha variant of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is priced at ₹12.87 lakh, its equivalent Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor V trim with the dual-tone colour and 1.0-litre engine paired to a 6-speed gearbox will set you back by ₹13.03 lakh.
