The above development comes as the entire Triumph India range now falls under the 40% GST slab.
In a recent analyst call, Rakesh Sharma, executive director, Bajaj Auto announced that development for a sub 350 cc Triumph engine is fast in progress. The above announcement confirms the rumour that Bajaj Auto is developing a new sub-350 cc engine for the British brand. The reason for this is simple: with the new GST revision, all Triumph bikes fall under the 40% slab and this has increased the retail prices of its motorcycle range.
While Bajaj Auto has been absorbing the GST hike and has ensured the old pricing for the Triumph Motorcycles range, it wasn’t a sustainable option for the company. The above strategy helped Bajaj’s Pro-Biking division achieve its best quarter sales of over 30,000 units, a jump of 30% compared to last year.

The sub-350 cc Triumph bikes will be specifically built only for the Indian market and Bajaj Auto will continue to manufacture the Triumph 400 cc engines for exports. It’s expected the new powerplant will be a bored down version of the current motor to reduce the engine displacement so it falls under the 18% GST slab. The above will have an impact on the engine’s performance and we expect a reduction of around 3-4 bhp. The Triumph 400 cc engine produces 40 bhp and 37.5 Nm.
The new Triumph 350 cc bikes are expected to make their India debut in the first half of 2026 and it will be interesting to see whether the entire range moves to the new 350 cc powerplant or only the Speed range does. The much anticipated Bonneville 350 will also get the new engine and could be launched alongside the 350 cc range.
