The latest updates aim to make the Triumph Tiger 1200 range more refined and comfortable.
Building on the extensive updates that Triumph introduced with the Tiger 1200 range in 2022, the 2024 Tiger 1200 motorcycles just got more refined. The House of Hinckley has taken into account all the small issues that were plaguing these adventure motorcycles and in the process promises that the bikes will be more enjoyable than before.
For starters, the new Tiger 1200 GT Explorer now rolls on new cast 19/18-inch wheels, while the off-road-oriented Tiger 1200 Rally gets relatively longer-travel suspension and a 21-/18-tubeless spoke-wheel combo. Both now also feature a larger 29-litre fuel tank versus the 20-litre fuel tank from before. In addition to that…
The Triumph 1200 cc ADV has been revised with an updated crankshaft, alternator radiator, and balancer. These additional engine calibration changes are claimed to make the bike smoother to operate, and will deliver more precise low-rev torque while retaining that iconic T-plane character.
The engine’s underlying mechanism doesn’t change though. It produces the same 147 bhp at 9000 rpm and 130 Nm at 7000 rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by the same 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist, and a low-maintenance shaft drive as before.
Making matters uncomfortable during long rides earlier was the seat of the Tiger 1200. To address this issue, Triumph has redesigned the seat profile and it is now flatter than before, which should allow riders to freely move their positions on longer trips. Other ergo tweaks include a longer clutch lever to make room for the riders’ fingers.
The introduction of Active Preload Reduction feature was a novel and exciting addition to the Triumph Tiger 1200 range. This optional upgrade would reduce the seat heights of both the Rally Explorer and GT Explore by 20 mm when the bikes came to a standstill, by pressing the ‘Home’ button on the right switch cube. For 2024, this feature will be available as standard with all Triumph Tiger 1200 motorcycles.
Furthermore, peg-scrapping was a recurrent issue with the last model. In the 2024 models, Triumph has addressed this issue by positioning the footpeg higher and closer to the bike, and in the process ground clearance has increased.
All these updates are further enhanced by new cosmetics. The Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer gets a new Carnival Red colour option to the existing Snowdonia White and Sapphire Black options. While the 2024 Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer gets a new Matte Sandstorm option along with the Jet Black and Matte Khaki colours.
With the unveil of the 2024 Triumph Tiger 1200 range for the global market already underway, we expect these new models to make their way to our shores in the next few months. All four models - Tiger 1200 GT Pro, Tiger 1200 GT Explorer, Tiger 1200 Rally Pro, and Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer - are already sold in India. So, the introduction of this new updated range makes all the more sense for the Indian context.
