In a stirring display of unity and tribute to the Kargil Vijay Diwas, an All-Women Bike Rally was flagged off yesterday from the Hall of Fame in Leh by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Dr) B D Mishra in association with TVS Motor Company.
Marking the Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav (Silver Jubilee) of the historic victory, the rally features riders from diverse backgrounds, including serving women of the Armed Forces, military spouses, and civilian enthusiasts. Participants will ride TVS Apache (all categories 150 cc, 160 cc, and 200 cc) and TVS Ronins over a challenging 2,000-kilometer route across Ladakh, traversing some of the world's highest motorable passes, including Khardung La and Umling La.
Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding of the Fire & Fury Corps, and Vimal Sumbly, Head of Premium Business at TVS Motor Company, were present at the flag-off ceremony.
"This rally not only honours the spirit of Kargil Vijay Diwas but also highlights our nation's unity in cultural and ethnic diversity," said Lt Gen Bhalla. "It's a testament to the strength and determination of our women riders."
The participants will pay homage to various war memorials throughout Ladakh, commemorating the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces during the Kargil War in 1999. Additionally, the rally aims to inspire youth, particularly young women, through various events and interactions planned along the route.
The Bikes
As for the motorcycles, both the TVS Apache and Ronin have been capable workhorses in the urban jungle, and for the occasional run-of-the-mill from the daily bustle. The Ronin equips a 225 cc that is good for a decent 20.1 bhp and 19.93 Nm, while the Apache RTRs is available with four types of engine configuration – 160 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc, and 310 cc. The 160 cc is available in two iterations against 2V and 4V (where V stands for valves). Prices for the Apache start from ₹1.20 lakh onwards (ex-showroom) with the Apache RTR 160 2V, while the top-of-the-line Apache RTR 310 starts from ₹2.50 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the TVS Ronin is priced from ₹1.73 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
