The new Orbiter will be positioned as an affordable and entry-level electric scooter in TVS’s EV portfolio.
TVS Motor has sent out a block your date with a teaser of an upcoming product and mentioned, “Get ready for an electrifying ride.” The above confirms that it’s an electric two-wheeler, but there are no further details about the upcoming product. In our opinion, the new TVS electric scooter could be called the Orbiter, as we can see an “O” in the background. The new TVS Orbiter will be positioned as an affordable electric scooter from the brand.
TVS already leads the EV segment, and this new product should help the company maintain its leadership position. The styling of the scooter is expected to be much simpler in comparison to the TVS iQube, and it will be positioned below the popular electric scooter. The battery and motor specs will also be basic in comparison to the iQube so as to keep the cost in check. We also expect the feature list to be thin in order to make it as affordable as possible, and maybe TVS might introduce a BaaS (battery as a service) plan with this new electric scooter. As we have seen with the Vida V2, BaaS has helped in reducing the cost of the electric scooter massively.
The new TVS Orbiter will break cover on August 28 and is expected to go on sale in September, just before the festive season kicks in. The new TVS scooter could be priced well within ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete against the Ola S1 Air, Vida V2 and the Bajaj Chetak 3001. Ather is also developing a new low-cost electric scooter platform, which will be unveiled on August 30. As you can see, action in the EV space is heating u,p and all the brands are focusing on making their products more affordable and approachable to the buyers
