In the initial phase of operations, Muddyfox will offer 18 SKUs spanning multiple segments and age groups.
British bicycle brand Muddyfox has announced its entry in India. The company is all set to enter the market this month and has appointed Surat-based Ananta Ventures as its exclusive distributor in India. Ananta Ventures currently operates as the official distributor for home-grown brands like Roam and Kylon.
Founded in the mid-1980s, Muddyfox played a significant role in introducing mountain biking to the UK and Europe that emerged from the growing popularity of off-roading in the United States during the said period.
In the initial phase of operations, Muddyfox will offer 18 SKUs spanning multiple segments and age groups, including MTB, hybrid, women’s and children’s bicycles. The portfolio will be expanded with additional models based on market demand, and the company also plans to introduce a broad range of accessories.
Between 1983 and the early 1990s, Muddyfox’s initial models were characterised by robust frame construction and wider tyres, designed to meet the rigours of off-road riding. At a time when mountain biking remained a niche discipline and had yet to enter the mainstream, this positioning enabled Muddyfox to establish itself as a trendsetter in the segment. In 1985, the company introduced the “Courier”, a more accessible and affordable model that significantly expanded the brand’s appeal. The Courier went on to become an urban icon, representing a successful blend of rugged mountain bike capability with everyday practicality.
By 1987, Muddyfox had secured an estimated 50 percent share of the UK mountain bike market, with annual sales of approximately 20,000 units. Within the following two years, volumes rose sharply to nearly 100,000 units per annum. Today, Muddyfox is recognised as a globally established brand, with a strong presence across the United States, Europe and Asia, in addition to its home market of the UK.
